The masters of the OMI studio made a memorial plaque to the Hero of Ukraine, deputy head of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, liquidator of the Chernobyl accident, Alexander Grigorievich Lelechenko. The board was made by order of employees of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and, on the eve of the 31st anniversary of the accident, was placed directly on one of the buildings of the nuclear power plant.
“Thus, the Chernobyl NPP team decided to pay tribute to and memory of the man who, without hesitation for a minute, sacrificed himself for the sake of the lives of millions of people. Alexander Lelechenko, while at his workplace, took a direct part in extinguishing the fire on the night of April 25-26, 1986 at the power unit where the accident occurred, and took priority measures to prevent the spread of fire. He died from a fatal dose of radiation received on May 7 in Kyiv,” said Igor Ascheulov, art director of the OMI studio.
The board measuring 100 by 80 cm is made of plastic and coated with bronze plating. This technology can significantly reduce the cost of the memorial plaque and lighten the load on the façade of the building where it is placed. In this case, the human eye will not be able to detect the difference: the same processes will occur on the surface as on a product made entirely of bronze.
“I personally went to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Going there, I felt a sense of anxiety before the atomic monster and awe at the human feat. Arriving at the place, all worries dissipated. Today, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is a European-level enterprise that is in decommissioning mode. I am proud that our studio became the executors of this order, bringing to life all the warmth of the reviews about this wonderful person - Alexander Lelechenko,” Bogdan Kazachenko, art director of the OMI studio, shared his impressions of the execution of the order.
