The masters of the OMI studio have mastered a new technology for “painting” plastic sculptures with light
In the fall of 2017, the OMI studio acted as a subcontractor for the improvement of the square near the “Dream” Center for Children and Youth Creativity in Krivoy Rog. By order of the Southern Mining and Processing Plant (YUGOK), five art objects were produced, embodying artistic trends. These are plastic sculptures of a violinist, theater actress, ballerina, artist and dancer.
“This Center for Children's Creativity is located in a very picturesque place - the geological natural monument “Arkose Sandstone Outcrops”. I am sure that after the improvement of the square, citizens will come here with even greater pleasure. And the new lighting of the square and the internal illumination of the sculptures will make this place safe and attractive for walking even in the evening,” said Igor Ashcheulov, art director of the OMI studio.
The managers of the OMI studio shared that plastic sculptures have firmly occupied their niche in the improvement of parks, public gardens, squares, and the decoration of the territories of shopping and entertainment centers and hypermarkets. Relative cheapness, high strength and resistance to weathering have made plastic one of the most popular materials in the manufacture of custom sculptures. Another advantage of plastic sculptures is the ability to make them hollow and translucent. When properly filled with LEDs in the evening, art objects are transformed beyond recognition.
“In this order, we used the translucency of plastic not just to illuminate the sculptures from the inside, but “painted” them with the help of light. For example, on the violinist, as darkness falls, a thread of lilac notes appears, and the hem of the dancer’s dress is colored with intricate patterns. This is not the first experience of painting with light, in my opinion, it was very successful. In any case, the customer was satisfied, and this is the most important thing in our work!” - said art director of the OMI studio Bogdan Kazachenko.
Thanks to mutual assistance and understanding in the team, the sculptors of the OMI studio completed the order in three months (the standard execution time for an order of this volume and complexity is 5-6 months). Today, all the sculptures are installed on their pedestals and delight visitors with their beauty.
