The masters of the OMI studio laid the foundation for a new tradition for student youth in Chernigov
Despite the modern methods of obtaining knowledge that have come to science, as well as the abundance of Internet sources, the book today does not lose its position in the field of education and continues to be associated with the source of knowledge.
The management of the Chernigov National Technological University approached the masters of the OMI studio with a request to develop a concept and create a sculptural composition based on a book.
“OMI specialists studied about 120 works by various sculptors from around the world. We wanted to make a non-trivial composition that is not only associated with studies and Ukrainian traditions, but also reflects modern approaches in education. And in this matter, oddly enough, the classic of Ukrainian poetry Taras Shevchenko came to our aid with his timeless phrase: “Study, read, learn from someone else’s, and don’t fight your own.” These words became the leitmotif of the new “Book of Knowledge” of the Chernigov University,” said art director of the OMI studio Bogdan Kazachenko.
The sculpture was made from fiberglass, covered with a thin layer of bronze and patina. This technique allows you to give the work a rather expensive look with a relatively small investment; in addition, the coating is resistant to abrasion, and the sculpture perfectly withstands all atmospheric influences.
The sculptural composition became the finishing touch to the improvement of the University's Student Square, and immediately became popular among students.

Even a new tradition has appeared: if a student touches a book, he will definitely pass the test or exam.
The “Book of Knowledge” has also become a source of attraction for creating new bright photos for social networks and, especially if iconic personalities are present in the frame, such as the mayor of Chernigov Vladislav Atroshenko, who was present at the opening, or ex-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, who came to Chernigov University to present special scholarships to young scientists and inventors.
