The collaboration of the masters of the OMI studio with the Kvartal 95 studio began in December 2014. It was then that the idea was born to create a humorous television project “Fairy Tales of U”. The filming process lasted more than 2 months, during which time a series of programs was filmed, the first of which were shown to viewers on New Year's Eve.
The tasks of the OMI studio masters included preparing film sets for work on the project: creating scenery, props, a throne, placing entourage.
“We mostly had to work at night, because filming began in the morning, and the decorations of the room had to be ready. It was very interesting to experience the filming process from the inside, but, to be honest, we were so tired during the night that we went to bed during the day. And in the evening they gathered again and worked all night,” said art director of the OMI studio Bogdan Kazachenko.
The filming pavilion is a huge room in which several film sets are being prepared at the same time, noted Bogdan Kazachenko. The conceptual artist prepares a sketch of the scenery, and the set and art group, which included masters from the OMI studio, under the guidance of the production designer, turns the drawings into reality.
“Since we prepared the backdrops mainly for one-day filming, the requirements for them were one-day ones. The materials used were mainly polystyrene foam, timber, fabric, plastic, and plexiglass. Nevertheless, we always produced a fast and high-quality product,” emphasized the art director of the OMI studio.
The special project “Tales of U” continued in 2016.
