In the summer of 2015, by order of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ukraine, the masters of the OMI studio created a sculpture of the Mother of God. Today, the work of masters adorns the territory of the church and temple complex of the Intercession of the Mother of God in Novoaleksandrovka, Dnepropetrovsk region. “It took 2 months to make the sculpture. I wanted to create facial features that would undoubtedly evoke emotions among parishioners.

I studied many already created images of the Mother of God and eventually made a sculpture based on the assembled image that I had in my head,” noted Dmitry Kropiva, master of the OMI studio. To create the sculpture, it was Polyester resin with fiberglass was used. In terms of strength, this material can be compared to stone, but sculptures created from resin are much lighter and cheaper to manufacture.

You can't compare stone, bronze, plaster or polyester resin. All these materials are unique and are used by the master depending on the client’s preferences. To create the image of the Mother of God, a clay model was sculpted, which was approved by the customers. Next is removal of the matrix and casting in polyester resin with fiberglass.

After this, the sculpture went through the stage of tinting and applying a protective coating. Thanks to the appropriate tinting, in appearance it does not differ from a plaster sculpture, but in terms of strength properties it is much stronger and more durable, said Bogdan Kazachenko, art director of the OMI studio.
