When saying goodbye to our loved ones and relatives forever, many of us want to pay our final respects and express our love for the deceased through a monument installed at the grave. Many funeral agencies and specialized private entrepreneurs who provide, among other things, services for making tombstones, most often cannot help the customer, since they work mainly with templates. Bogdan Kazachenko, art director of the OMI studio, will tell you how to make an exclusive commemorative sculpture.

“While making sculptures, we were faced with requests from people to create a monument to a deceased or deceased relative. After consulting, we expanded the range of services provided to include the production of Gothic sculptures and the development of cemetery architecture. Let me make a reservation right away that not many manufacturers of monuments will be able to carry out such an exclusive order, since it is necessary to have a huge amount of knowledge and experience as a sculptor. On the other hand, not every sculptor will undertake the production of a tombstone. This is a multi-stage and expensive process, quite difficult emotionally,” said Bogdan Kazachenko.

In their work, the masters of the OMI studio use materials such as granite, marble, bronze, polyester resins with the addition of fiberglass. All these materials are highly durable and can withstand long-term mechanical and weather influences. The difference lies in the technology for making sculptures, price and, of course, customer preference. The art director of the OMI studio shared that the association’s craftsmen most often receive orders for the production of angels, images of saints, and busts. Less often - full-length figures, usually representing human activities during life. To achieve maximum similarity and display emotions when making busts and sculptures, craftsmen work not only with portraits, but also with narrative photographs of the deceased.

“The most popular materials are granite and marble, regardless of the geography of the order. One of the latest works by the masters of the OMI studio was the sculptural composition “Madonna and Child”. We created a plaster model for further puncturing into marble, which will be done outside the walls of our workshop. That is, we do not rule out an agreement with clients to perform only part of the work,” emphasized Bogdan Kazachenko.
It should be noted that making a sculpture is a long process that requires constant interaction with the customer.
