Thanks to new technologies, the number of computer-generated special effects in cinema has increased in recent years. But beyond the influence of time remains the use of dummies on the set. High-quality props can become a full-fledged substitute for the original when shooting a film or video. Moreover, due to the use of dummies during filming, takes can be filmed endlessly, since they have a long service life.
To create dummies, depending on the purpose, a variety of materials are used, most often foam, plastic, polyurethane and silicone. The masters of the OMI studio are engaged in the production of custom-made models of food and ready-made dishes, videos and household appliances, weapons, parts of various designs, cars, animals and even the human body. In addition, the association’s specialists can create original dolls for science fiction films.

“The most difficult thing is to create a dummy of the human body. Thanks to experience and artistic thinking, we can create a model with maximum portrait resemblance to the actor, and of such quality that even the pores on the skin will be visible. One of the latest jobs was the production of human body parts, as well as the head and body parts of a pig for an quest room. Due to the materials used - polyurethane and silicone - even touching the dummies, not every visitor understands that this is a prop,” emphasized Igor Ascheulov, art director of the OMI studio.
Igor said that the film industry is not the only area where dummies are actively used. The masters of the OMI studio are often contacted by various educational institutions (creation of teaching aids), cafes, grocery stores (food, dishes for window displays), manufacturing companies (sectional models of manufactured products), advertising agencies and others. The craftsmen approach each client individually, being in contact with the customer from the moment the order is placed until the dummy is delivered to the site.
