The masters of the OMI studio made a monument to the Ukrainian “Hachiko”

In mid-September 2016, near the Black Sea (Ilyichevsk) children's clinic on the street. On May 1, a monument to the Ukrainian Hachiko, St. Bernard Lord, was installed on a pedestal.

The history of this monument is very touching. The owner of the dog worked in a children's clinic, and, as eyewitnesses say, at about 13 years old, a dog began to come with the man, who saw him off and met him from work every day. About 10 years ago the owner died right on the job. And since then, the Lord settled near the clinic, waiting for his owner to return from work.

“Maybe the dog understood everything, but he could not leave his post, he was responsible for the mission he had chosen for himself, here he left his owner, here he was waiting for him. They tried to take him away more than once, but he still came back. All the residents of Chernomorsk knew him and fed him, marveling at his devotion to his master,” noted OMI studio master Alexander Prytula.

He was big and good-natured, both adults and children loved him. And when the dog died, the Black Sea people decided to pay tribute to the Lord, who became for many an example of such important qualities as responsibility, loyalty, devotion. Funds for the monument were collected by the entire city. Residents of other regions also joined the project.

“This is truly a people's project. When volunteers approached us with a request to make a monument to the Ukrainian Hachiko and told the story of Lord, the masters of the OMI studio decided not to take money for the work. We tried to give the image majesty and, at the same time, it is permeated with sadness. This is how the Lord was - he proudly carried out his mission, was a leader, but there was always sadness in his gaze,” said art director of the OMI studio Bogdan Kazachenko.

The monument is made of polyester resin with the addition of fiberglass. This is a lightweight and durable material that is resistant to external influences. It has a bronze patina and a protective coating applied on top. Ukrainian Hachiko will remind different generations of Black Sea residents for many years about the importance of such qualities as responsibility and loyalty to one’s obligations.
