Studio "OMI": production of architectural models to order

One of the specializations of the OMI studio is the production of architectural models. Bogdan Kazachenko, art director of the OMI studio, spoke about their types, purpose and material and technical base for making models.

“An architectural layout is a spatial-volumetric model of a designed or existing architectural composition. Unlike other types of visualization, it creates the effect of presence and makes it possible to touch the object. For example, making an architectural model before the start of construction of a particular facility helps in presenting the project to experts and the public. An exact copy of the future building also helps to sell the premises in it,” said Bogdan Kazachenko.

The art director of the OMI studio noted that the layouts that are ordered to the association can be divided into:

- conceptual - this is a beautiful presentation of an idea or architectural concept, most often used for participation in exhibitions or competitions;

- advertising - this type of layout is intended to sell, therefore it must be detailed and fully reflect all the advantageous positions of the object (correspondence to the external and internal appearance, sections - to display the interior, removable top etc.);

- urban planning - a kind of three-dimensional map: displays a detailed plan of the territory of an entire block or area, showing all buildings and green areas;

- engineering - very difficult to implement layouts that require a complete understanding of the process, as they reflect the features of the device and operation of any unit or complex.

You can also separate manual layouts and souvenir layouts.

“Making an architectural model is a “jewelry”, manual assembly of an object from its components. Depending on the type and purpose of the mock-ups, we use materials such as various types of plastic, films, wood and its derivatives, cardboard, architectural plasticine, foam plastic, plexiglass, LEDs, acrylic and special mock-up paints, as well as other materials to make its parts.” , - noted Bogdan Kazachenko.

The art director of the OMI studio emphasized that it is known that the first architectural models appeared in Ancient Egypt: models of temples were discovered in the tombs of the pharaohs. Today, almost every industry faces the need to produce an architectural model: industrial, transport, military, construction and others.
